Everything New

Firstly, I apologise for not posting much in the past few weeks. I am so snowed under applying for UNI,exam and creating portfolio's and what have you for interviews.

I've got an interview at Solent, a portfolio viewing at LCF but I have not heard from Falmouth since sending off my portfolio, I really do hope they get back to me soon as it is my top choice of Uni!

Below is a link to my finished portfolio that I am having printed, please go check it out and see what kind of thing i'm doing, you never know you might like it:

Wish List- December 2012

It's almost the boxing day sales, so I will resist to buy these beauties. As you can see i've got a real love for fur, chunky heels and glitter polish.

Fur coat- Topshop, it's beautiful, teamed with some disco pants and chunky heels, I have an outfit it's so extravagant it needs so little to make it work. It will be mine, just you wait.

Glitter tights- Someone help me, pretty polly do not stock these, nor do topshop. I need these and will hunt for them!

Jumper- Simple black jumper to be worn with anything, it's winter and can be accessorised to any extent, cosy and chic.

Jeffery Campbell- I have a soft spot for Jeffery Campbells, I love chunky heels and these are just short of my lita's meaning they will be comfy too, would be rude not to!

Purse- River Island, I need a purse, this is cute, job done.

Glitter Polish- OPI, I have many glitter polishes but not a multi-colour glitter, something christmassy and of course will go with anything.

Fingers crossed these buys will be in the sale in Jan, and if you know where to get those tights, HELP!

Fantasy Fashion

I'm looking to study fashion photography next September and as part of my portfolio I have avidly been shooting. After visiting the Tim Walker: Storyteller exhibition at Somerset House in London I was inspired to do a gothic, sinister fairytale styled shoot. I sat down and watched Tim Burtons rendition of Alice in Wonderland I knew what I was to do. I wanted to take innocent Alice and create a strange eerie character based on the film. Here are a few of the images:

I wanted to create a couture(ish) outfit whilst creating the visuals, and of course I would never of been able to get one off extravagant pieces to style with but this was my interpretation. Every individual piece was borrowed and brought together to get the alice in wonderland look just the way I wanted it.

Tell mw what you think!,

Clothes Show Live - Review

Being branded the UK's largest fashion and beauty event, Clothes Show Live had a lot to live up to. My visit was for three reasons; educational, the show and of course... shopping! Tickets priced £27 for regular and £40 it was quite a price to pay to travel two hours down the motorway to be potentially disappointed. I had never been before but this was a risk I was willing to take after hearing numerous reviews of previous years.

I arrived at CSL, withdrew cash and headed straight for the stalls. After trawling through hundreds of stalls I was disappointed with the range and quality of the clothes. A lot of what was trying to be sold felt cheaply made and nothing really caught my eye. I did buy one item, a ELLE goody bag, priced at £2. It contained two issues of ELLE a Gemma Kidd eyeliner and ST Tropez gradual moisturising tan, I felt I had received a good deal and kept me happy for the day despite being persistently told to buy things I just didn't want . The price of food on the other hand was ridiculous, but with event's like CSL I would not expect anything less.

Shopping aside, I attended a seminar on styling with industry specialists Ella Heath Pearce (stylist) and Caryn Franklin (former co-editor and fashion editor of i-d). Whilst the seminar was on styling I felt it was a great help to me and would recommend it to anyone trying to enter the industry as you are able to take part in a Q&A session with the specialists. I visited the university stalls which enabled me to gain an understanding of what each of the universities I have applied for are like. Again, very helpful.

I watched the diet coke show; a showcase catwalk with a range of students creations. Here are some of the photo's and work I captured:

The first image was a collection from the students at Falmouth University. I love the colour, in particular  the long fur poncho. Another item that I thought deserved recognition was sheer trailed maxi skirt hemmed with a spectrum of feathers, the material draped beautifully. This collection for me stood out from the rest, the range colours and textures were broad and showcased the strong creative talent of the students. I feel like they have really thought outside of the box creating beautiful, unique pieces.

The second image was an item from Manchester College. Using transparent PVC to create a structured dress, this was one of my favourite items and a trend that has been seen on the catwalk for S/S 2013 from the Valentino ready to wear collection. The third and final image was an outfit from Wolverhampton College. I have chosen this outfit for the top; the soft flounces are of a high quality and create an amazing silhouette. Again flounces are a trend set to be big this spring.

The Show

So what you've all been waiting for, "The Show". Presented by Henry Holland and Grace Woodward , the show lasted 45 minutes, contained over 200 outfits and nine scene changes, quite the show. After 15 minutes previous to the show enduring girls shouting and jumping for JLS's performance I was ecstatic to see the first model. The theme this year was based on the life of a fashionista, photo-shoots, fashion week, the fashion awards and of course the after party. Of course the elaborate lighting and staging was amazing, I sat in awe watching the models, male and female as they strut down the runway. It was what everyone says and more, although more dance orientated than a traditional runway, but nether the less, fantastic.

In conclusion, I would definitely go again just perhaps not on student day, there was too many young teens there who rushed round under your feet. Other than that, astounding.

Style Spot- Clothes Show Live

For a fashion orientated show I was expecting to be wowed by hundreds of girls (and boys) with their unique sense of style. Unfortunately there was only a few that I felt really stood away from the crowd , here are 3 of my favourite outfits from today.

One- Karen, 18

I love, love, love this outfit and when I spotted Karen it would almost be a crime if I hadn't stopped her and asked if she would mind me taking a photo of her. Burgundy is the primary colour for this outfit. Shown from head to toe this ties the outfit together and makes it looks complete. Something I really loved about this outfit is that it didn't feel like she had tried to hard, it feels natural and really reflects her. The buttoned white shirt gives a nod to the alpha female trend that has appeared on the catwalk in time for S/S 2013 bringing a on-trend smart feel to the outfit. Karen likes to shop in Topshop but also loves finding unique pieces in vintage boutiques.

Two- Verity, 22

The lurex glitter tights drew me to Verity. I love this look, not only do the tights remind me of christmas (and look amazing) but the contrast between the smart sheer shirt and the reworked levi's just works. This outfit is a modern interpretation of vintage and oozes cool. Another nod to alpha female trend  in this outfit but also to the trend of sheers which has been a favourite this year and is also set to be big in S/S 2013. Verity's shirt (Republic)  is feminine yet has a strong look which is accentuated by the contrast in the shirt and the collar. Verity's favourite shop is Urban Outfitters.

Three- Molly, 19

Molly was the first of the girls I snapped and I knew she would be a definite choice for my style spot. Amongst 100's of teenage girls dressed in creeper shoes and leggings, Molly's pin up style stood out for me. What isn't to love? Leopard print, beautifully styled hair, and a unique outfit. This outfit speaks for itself not requiring any accessories or fancy add ons. Molly's is influenced by the fabulous Dita Von Teese and 1950's Betty Page.

In conclusion, the three girls looks amazing and i'd love to hear what you think!

Rita, where is your Ora?

Night two, and both Nicole and Tulisa have nailed it. Tulisa wears a dress suspiciously similar to Nicole's performance outfit from last night. A floor length strapless gown with heavy silver embellishments and a sultry split leg caught the attention of thousands as Tulisa emerged from the x-factor stage, a definite transformation from last night. Tulisa looks every part a lady, classic and classy.

Nicole cannot put a foot wrong, the second night and another impressive show. Topping her trail from last night Nicole's black fishtail dress wowed. With a metallic T-shaped insert along the strapless bodice the dress is certainly a twist on a classic. Both women have dressed to impress and have certainly done so.

Back to last night, I have one question:

Rita where is your Ora?
Usually fashion forward and eccentric, I feel Rita may have outstepped her comfort zone last night. Here is what she wore:

A heavy, baggy,  strapless black playsuit with a multicoloured jacket, not the most flattering outfit.  The heavy material hung unflatteringly over her chest and created an unappealing silhouette. I only hope this is a one off as I usually agree with Rita's outfit choices.

Rita has been branded a style copycat to Rihanna although tonight the two could not have been dressed any more differently. Rihanna wore a two part outfit, a pencil skirt and high necked crop. In a white tone the outfit used a number of panels to separate the colour block whilst a crocodile type skin created a strong texture to the outfit. Teamed with a chunky heeled white strapped heel and a garter type accessory just above the knee, Rihanna created a very on trend geometric look taking a twist on the famous 1960's white shift dress that twiggy wore. Rihanna's look is very versatile and I think she took a risk tonight choosing something that is a far shot from her usual style, and this is a chance that paid off well.

Clothes show live tomorrow expect a post from a very excited me!

Nicole Or Tulisa, Who Has The X-Factor?

The X-Factor finals, renounced for producing some of the UK's newest talent, but also a chance to see the outfits of judges and performers . This year not only do we have queen of the Pussycat dolls, Nicole Scherzinger but also british singer songwriter, Tulisa Contostavlos. The press always comparing the two, Nicole usually winning (sorry Tulisa, just not our cup of tea).

Nicole Scherzinger
Photo from Vogue UK Facebook.
Nicole, always looks amazing, conserved yet sexy and never tacky. Wearing a Zuhair Murad red sequin dress, Nicole definitely caught my attention

Subtly sexy Nicole looks every inch a lady, showcasing her beautiful curves. Armed top to toe in glamorous red sequins and a flowing  trail, Nicole has chosen to leave the dress to talk for itself with minimal accessorising.

Performing with Jahmene Nicole again wowed with a floor length embellished silver dress. The embellishments looking strangely like fish scales had a rich luster creating quite the entrance. Although the dress had a scoop neck, Nicole was sure not to show too much, unfortunately the same can not be said for her co-judge Tulisa.

Tulisa Contostavlos

On the penultimate night you would be sure that the judges would be dressed to impress, being one of the UK's biggest shows. Unfortunately Tulisa's choice of outfit wasn't for me. A black mini dress with what I can only describe as a ruffled tutu skirt to it. The upper body of the dress was composed of a faux leather bodice with ruffled straps and a mesh material. As mentioned above Tulisa's cleavage was far too exposed, this may not have been purposely as I felt the bodice may have been slightly too small. This unfortunately left the whole outfit with a trashy look. Although black strapped platforms, teamed with her classic side bun and smokey eyes  did give Tulisa an edge. It's a shame I felt  Tulisa's outfit malfunctioned. I feel she could look just as classy as Nicole if only she covered up and followed a more demure look.

In conclusion I felt that Nicole definitely looked the part tonight although tomorrow is another day and an outfit change could make all the difference.
